For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is upright..
How would you describe your walk with God? I know that u understand that we are not perfect. [Rom 3:23; 5:12; 6:23; Matt 5:48] Our ways and our thoughts do not come to the pleasure of our creator, [Isa 55:9] We fail in life, love, relationship, witnessing, worship, work, and life in general. However let me ask you the same question another way. What does your heart long for and how does that relate to the way you walk? [Ps 119:131] Do you desire truth? [Dan 7:19; John 14:6] Do you spend your days and much of your life evaluating your steps and your decisions? Do you wonder if these things that matter to Him? Do you read the bible, study his ways, desire his ways and pray seeking his will in your life? If you consider his will when you make decisions and you desire his will and way in your life you are doing well. We often look at our failures at striving to walk for God and forget the things we do well. Studying the word of God, praying, asking for his will to be done, seeking his pleasure, seeking his way to walk in it has set us on a journey [Matt 6:33]. We may stumble, we may fall. But we are on the journey going his way. It began before our salvation. A sermon preached pricked our conscience. [Rom 10:9;10;13] A sin we committed woke up the truth of the law and our inability to fulfill his perfectness.[Rom 7:9] We struggled with good works and our sinful nature until at one moment in time the Holy Spirit drawing us and the angelic host prodding us towards the truth broke through.[Eph 2:8-10; Heb 1:14] What we had heard about Jesus, death, burial and ressurection and what we knew of our sinfulness began to make sense [1 Cor 15:3-8]. We saw our need as impossible to solve and we saw Jesus as the solution for our eternal delima. In faith we cried out and recieved his grace and know we are his children. [Rom 10:13; 8:1] Now as children we do not always obey but our way is upright. The path and the goal in our life has become merged with a heavenly path. It is the path of righteoysness for his name sake [Ps 23]. We serve a risen Lord. we walk in newness of life [Rom 6]. We have forgiveness in confession and repenatnce.[1 john 1:9] We have heaven as our home due to his wonderous gift. [John 14] we have his walk through sanctified living through the word [John 17:17], the Holy Spirit and our repentance. So we can cry our walk is upright. We stand in his righteousness [Rom 8:1; Gal 6:15]. Therefore we can know and expect his honor and favor on our lives. we can know that all good things come from our Father of lights [James 1:17]. we can know and claim that all this good has been set forth for us. We are his children and he is our lord.
Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Sometimes we need to be reminded.
Where has mistress care gone or her sister compassion moved to? Why do we not hear the voice of Mr conscience or mrs shame? Have we become so used to brother crass n sister insensitive that our words n actions happen selfishly n angrily without any forethought or consideration of anothers heart? Has the golden rule given by our Lord been forgotten n have we martyred Mr conscience on the altar of self esteem? Would we know that now our mothers n fathers, grandparents n greats that find no crimson flash of shame at our criminal speech should laugh at our pitiful situation? With deepening discomfort n deadly chagrin we see that our empty pursuits no honor gain at the sacrifice of Mrs shame. Our weak attempts at life n joy find their only resonance in empty cups or prescriptions din. Let’s wake n rise ere time is lost. Let’s give our hands friendships comfort n our minds a good cleansing. Let anothers need become our own n the praise we share be not our pride. Let our words n thoughts that now bring shame bring joy n hope, kindness’ gain. And finally may we replace the furrowed brow with the shapely form of the simple flower of the smile that our time’s forgot. go now n wash your hands from the things you have wrought. cleanse your minds from the thoughts u have thought. And exchange the empty words u have sought for kindness, conscience, pity n care, love, compassion, and then compare the better life n hope u n others will share.
Augustine – trust the past to God’s mercy, the present to Gods love and the future to Gods providence.
Have u faced what seems to be the greatest trial of your life? As u walk through this shadowed valley do u tremble with fear? Has pain, sickness, disease or death touched your home of late? I know all of u have gone through the jaws of death or been bereft of hope, suffered from earthly indignities, been shamed or broken at some time before. If u have not the moments such described will shake u sometime and someplace in the future. It may trickle slowly throughout your life like a slow leak in a dam or it may strike suddenly like tornadoes in a spring storm. Tragedy n bliss know only the timing of God. Sin n sadness find their only relief in the mercies of the almighty. The weeping that cracks forth from broken hearts and tears that flow intermittently from salt stained eyes when death has visited finds no true satisfaction without a faith in the almighty’s plan. Injustice momentarily gains a foothold in ourlives but the hope of providential payday gives the broken cause to rise from tragedy. Depression deserts the shadowy room as hope’s sunlight cuts a swath in darkened thoughts because of faith’s resolute sovrienty. Without his mercy to cover our sins from a Roman cross; without his love to reach even the farthest from his side; without his providence to provide a plan we can trust….we would have no hope. Thank u God for mercy, love n ur providence without these no help, hope or heaven could ever be found. Jesus said on the eve of his death…you trust in God u also can trust in me.
John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me
I believe in and on the holy spirit n his power that fell that day. From his brooding presence over creations troubled water to his authoritative anointing of prophets n kings throughout the history of the world I believe. I weep with the first family driven from the garden n tremors roam through out my spirit as eve screams her sorrow at the heavens. Her boy is dead at the hands if his brother. Her grief begins a historic journey through the tears of every mother since till one day our father wipes the tears away. I stare in wonder at enoch as he walks daily with God. My minds ear listens to the blows of hammers driving pegs into the gopher wood for 120 years all the while faithful Noah preaches Christ. I struggle with abram n sarai longing for the child .of promise n fear with hagar as she wonders if God even hears her prayer. I tremble with Isaiah as he sees God the father, hears the voice of the holy spirit n glimpses the person of christ. I stand in awe as Christs body forms in the overshadowed virginal womb of obedient Mary. I leap with joy as john the baptizer filled with the spirit recognized the presence of the creator from his mothers womb. Fear n faith comingle in my heart just contemplating josephs struggles, obedience in marriage, and sudden flight to Egypt which serves as a belated honeymoon. I weep with the prophet n prophetess as they witnessed the young babes presentation. I thank God for the faithful stepfather as he trains the young carpenter n I exult in his baptism at the hand of his first cousin. As I step in his footprints reveling in his wisdom n teaching style; I long for something more. As I eat fish n bread by the lakeside n accompany the disciples thru the storm to the far shore; I long for something more. When as demons scatter before the authority of his voice n the dead rise when he calls their names; my spirit yearns for more than miracles n food. As I gasp at the betrayers kiss n wrench with shock at the high priests arrogance I wonder at my need for more. When the crowds cry for crucifixion and my spirit goes numb with each hammers blow I shout at the heavens I must have more else I die. When blood splatters on the traveled hillside turn to incensed wrapping at a borrowed guarded tomb I fall at the shock reeling through my body n cry is this all there is to my faith. From locked doors to the early morning path, from tearless eyes n aching hearts I fall at the gaping darkness of the hollowed stone tomb. Tho the brightness of the angelic messengers blinds my eyes I hear their words n my hearts hope leaps in surprise. He is not here he is risen as he said. Truth n freedom, peace n transformational power break forth as my hearts cry. The masters transfiguration that comes only through the presence n power of the promised advocate. That sanctification that wreaks havoc with my sin nature n gives victory to the new creation. The crucified n resurrected life that happens only to the surrendered life agonizes forth from my finite self. Groaning with creation I cry. Sanctify me with thy word…thy word is truth. And then and only then lord may I, walk in thy spirit n know his power so I may teach others how to walk in thy ways. Amen to the amen the only truth n only great I am.
II Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
I M not so much interested in your flaws. we all have them. Find them n repent of them. Leave them n transform into his will n way. I am much more concerned abt yr passions. Are u only passionate abt temporal matters? The world its wealth, weaknesses, works of art, wearisome pursuit of pleasure, worrisome preoccupation with recreation, all of these n more will melt. Are u not the least concerned with eternity, ur family, friends, neighbors n acquaintances everlasting destination? Are u not passionate abt faith, ur father in heaven, his word n work? Too many r passionate abt family n fun, survival n safety yet do not have a passion abt their families faith or eternal reward. To say I believe in God n family and not keep them in an active place of worship, learning, service…n not care abt ur brother or love ur neighbor as urself will not engender favor with a thrice holy god. To even come to learn n worship n not participate or give back to God disgraces his grace n presence. Have we forgotten his commands n his poverty to make us rich? Have we so loved ourselves that we selfishly think he was made for us n not we for him?
Proverbs 3:35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools. 3:34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
What can u expect? If u r facing trials in this life what can u expect of those who love u n from God who loves u? If ur trials are, for example, a brain tumor, loss of a job, broken marriage, failure economically or something of this sort that results outside of your actions n faults. You should have compassion n help from those who love u n God himself. However if u have health problems due to abuse, like u had to have stomach surgery because u ate 30 hotdogs in an eating contest n it burst, did drugs or alcohol n ruined ur liver, lost ur job because u stole from the company, broke ur marriage due to infidelity, had financial failure due to laziness u cannot expect people or God for that matter to pat u on the back. The only way we can find consolation n compassion from God is through repentance. N sometimes people can then see the real change in us. However if we continue rebelling n do not straighten up our act neither God nor people show compassion. What if my situation is out of my control? What if I did nothing to engender the smears of mankind? Mary the mother of Jesus was pregnant out of wedlock yet was in the center of Gods will n was still a virgin. Still people mocked her. What can we do abt issues like this? We can rest in the one who knows our situation n never forgets our authenticity. If u r wrong confess it n repent. If ur right don’t worry abt what people think. Stand in his strength.
Psalms 56:11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only
Recently some people thought that today begins the end of the world which will culminate in October. Guessing will get u nowhere but one day one of these jokers might accidentaly get it right. God, however knows the boundaries of time n space. He has all of his proverbial ducks in a row. When the end comes he will not be surprised. Thankfully he does not leave his children in ignorance. He tells us here what we cannot know n what we can know. first he warns us men will try to deceive us concerning the return of Christ. So we must be careful as to what n who we believe. second, we cannot know the timing of his coming with exactitude. God knows the moment his final plan unveils itself. third, we can know he is coming back. The word is replete with prophecies on Christs return. Since we cannot know his return date but we certain can know he is coming our only alternative is to live ready for his imminent return. The old hymn asks the question…Are u ready, are u ready, are u ready for the judgement day? I leave the same question with u….
