What do you need? What do you have?
5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee:In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Peter and John headed to the temple to pray at 3:00. The gate they chose is described as the beautiful gate. As was common in the east cripple and hurting people often sat at these entrances begging for help. The man there today was helpless. He could not help himself because he was lame. He was hopeless. He had tried all avenues of help and found no quick cures from mankind. This entrance to the temple might have been the Shushan or golden gate, the Nicanor gate or the Corinthian or eastern gate. All of these gates were used to access the temple. Jesus and his disciples passed thru these gates all of the time. They lead from the outside world thru the court of gentiles thru the women’s court into the Jewish court. Have you ever felt like God and good had forsaken you? This man knew despair. He had lain there a lifetime and Jesus had passed him by time and again. Have you ever felt worthless in the ministry of helping others? Peter and John came and had no silver and gold to give this man. He looked to them to receive money for his living. However much like the gifts of the world money fades, rusts and corrupts. This man had a need he had lost and a dream he had forgotten because of deferred hope. He had dreamt of walking but hope had given way to despair. His life was a cycle of meals and sleep till death. He needed Christ and he did not even know it. Tho you despair, rest in the truth, God’s timing is perfect. When the time is right God rains His blessings down. Love never tarnishes. Peter gave this man what God had freely given him. HOPE That’s a gift of grace. That’s ministry. So what do you have God has freely given you today? Go and give it away and fulfill the law of love. What do you need? Jesus is the answer
Are u watching?
5 “ Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder!
Because I am doing something in your days— You would not believe if you were told. 6 “For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans,
That fierce and impetuous people
Who march throughout the earth
To seize dwelling places which are not theirs…..
All around the world nations r in chaos. Wars n fear of financial collapse, coupled w nature gone wild this world us shaking. Just as Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24; Jeremiah, ezekiel, revelation all echo the way God works. Nations forget God but God does not forget. He uses environment, economics, n enemies to judge the world. Just as He raised up the Chaldeans in Habbakuk’s day he has raised up an enemy today. Ask urself who the whole world lives in fear of? It’s not just local, national but global. Just listen to the news. Ask urself….after u look n see…r u ready for the end of time n Christ’s return if it were to happen today?
Are u ready?
6 You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.
Right now there are anywhere from 30 to 48 active conflicts going on in the world. War is on every hand n is apparent in other places on the verge of war. Disease n famine have wreaked economic n emotional strain upon the whole global population. Recently in Myanmar a cyclone claimed more than 84000 lives. Hurricanes, tsunami, earthquakes like Haiti experienced appears weekly in the news. What is really going on? R we living in the last days? Of course we are. Those days began their countdown at the cross. Nothing restrains the Lords return but his own mercy.
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
Are u ready? Why don’t u just ask him into ur life right now. Settle this issue before he comes.
Abiding, Not Striving
John 15 Abide in me.
Are u ever overburdened abt life’s many issues? Do u need a burden lifted? Have u ever had a lightbulb moment? Hudson Taylor of China worried himself sick over the ministry. He obsessed about everything in his desire to reach the Chinese people. As he teetered near the emotional precipice he received a letter from compatriot missionary John MCarthy. Working and worrying so frantically that his health was about to break, John himself, described in his letter the utter relief n joy he discovered in John 15—the joy of abiding in Christ:
“Abiding, not striving or struggling; looking off unto Him; trusting Him for present power …. the only power for service; the only ground for unchanging joy.”
A light went on for Hudson.
“As I read,” he recalled, “I saw it all. I looked to Jesus, and when I saw, oh how the joy flowed!” Writing to his sister in England, he said:
As to work, mine was never so
plentiful, so responsible, or so difficult; but the weight and strain are all gone. The last month or more has been perhaps the happiest of my life, and I long to tell you a little of what the Lord has done for my soul.…
Note the amazing power of Gods Word. Two men, at different moments, each in the throes of agony of soul, found victory in such a simple phrase. Where they had struggled they found peace n rest. One small phrase….Abide in me…. One sentence, one man, one letter of encouragement….and even today u n I can find release by not striving but resting. No longer struggling but relying totally on Him for strength.
One sentence from a friend concerning one passage of scripture…o the power of the little proposition…in…. Do u need urself strengthened? Do u need ur burdens lifted? Ask urself where u abide. What u abide “in” makes all the difference.
Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming it. Helen Keller »
5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you. 6 And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
7 And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. 8 And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.
At times God supplies his will in a tangible way. When this happens we see n believe. Other times he requires faith wo seeing. These two forms of revelation cycle n recycle themselves thru out our spiritual walk
This part of gods will is like the priests at Jordan river.
God commanded them to bear the ark n step into the swollen river. Then they had to stand there. That’s faith like Peter walking on the water n then Jesus taking him back to the boat. Sometimes the will of God comes like it did at the red sea. They stood still n saw the deliverance of God. They did not have to excercise walking faith until they saw the dry land. But other times u gotta get out of the boat n u gotta step into the water b4 he shows u the way. Thats faith
b4 u see the deliverance. That requires faith based on Gods past performance, n his character. Joseph
says when u can’t see his hand u can trust his character. Go n see n believe. Go n step into the swollen river n stand. God leads his children along. The steps of good people r ordered by the lord. Delight urself in him n he will direct ur paths. You will hear his voice saying this is the way. Walk Ye in it. Isaiah, proverbs, psalms
7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8– We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labor, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
Depression dogs the steps of many people. I am one of those people. Sometimes it comes after an illness. In fact it may even come during the illness. Then other times it comes as a dark cloud when nothing is wrong at all. Even like Christ after his baptism it can come after the spiritual high of ministry. Understandably medical depression can and must be treated, spiritual depression must be treated as well. If satanic activity or sinful issues are involved confession and dedication to God resolve the issues. If the issues are medical Jesus told us that the sick need a physician. Mark 2:17 However sometimes no answer may be found. Medicine taken, sins confessed n counsel taken do not defeat this spectre. It creeps in like fog n slips seamlessly thru ur life. Words of those around u drip with added meaning to u. Darkness hides the sun midday. We r fallen, finite, n broken. Christ gives us new life, a new mind, a new way to think yet until our final breath the process of metamorphosis is not completed. We r not whole till our glorification. For that cause we groan for the full recreation. We long n pray for our ultimate change. We live n look for the day where no clouds fog the vision of our soul. We long for that eternal clear day.
II Corinthians 5:4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
17 Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live,
and keep thy word.
18 Open thou mine eyes,
that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
A sure sign of aging
As we age our hearing, eyesight n other senses begin to weaken. When our eyesight begins to go it affects all of our other senses. We need to watch our spiritual eyes tho. Cuz even tho the outward man may perish we can continue to grow in strength inwardly n spiritually.
16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
Therefore utilize the word of God. It is a light to our feet n path. It shows who we r n where we r n which direction we r heading. It guides, directs, instructs, rebukes, encourages, defends, overcomes, empowers, beings, faith, life n hope. Get w the book. Get it open. Read it aloud. Pray for open eyes, open heart, n ready hands for obedience.
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
